MUSIC | THE TRAP (includes inst & accs)

I never set out to be a part of Christian music. It was a calling I tried to run from, even as every other door seemed to slam shut. But my heart was always with the people I came from. I was raised among the ones the world called worthless. I grew up with the people deemed unworthy of a second chance.

As I rose through the ranks of the industry, I noticed a shift. I saw fewer people who looked like me. I saw fewer people from my context. I began to realize that while the industry loved my faith, it didn't necessarily love my race or my culture. I felt trapped in a choice I never asked to make. I was being told to choose between being a safe Black man or an advocate for my own people.

This album was my line in the sand. It was my musical dissertation on why God loves the hood. It was my proof that the struggles there aren’t a lack of faith, but the result of a system designed to fail. This project was my wake-up call to the ivory tower I found myself in. It was the moment I stopped looking for permission and started speaking the truth.
