WE'RE STILL BUILDING WALLS

I wrote “Walls” after the death of George Floyd, and today, with the tragic loss of Renee Good and Mr. Alex Pretti, we’re reminded how fragile progress can feel. Every few years, we watch society pick a new group to oppress, whether it’s political, religious, or social divides, and all it does is build walls between us.

I’m not calling for utopia or pretending we’ll hold hands and agree on everything. But what I’m asking is simple: honesty. We cannot see the same injustices and pretend they don’t exist or twist them to fit our ideologies. We must value truth over being “right.” Until we do, we won’t heal or progress.

As a Christian, I’m reminded of the command: do not bear false witness. If we claim to love God but twist truth to protect “our side,” we lose trust. The church can’t just serve one group or keep declining. We regain trust by tearing down these walls, making a place where we don’t have to be perfect, but where we’re safe to be honest. The Kingdom of God is about truth, faith, and love. Let’s start by being real.
